The Town is undertaking a grant-funded study with the Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) and consulting firm TY Lin to evaluate how Route 1 north of the Kittery traffic circle should be improved to support anticipated or desired changes in the community, improve traffic safety, and enhance mobility for pedestrians and bicyclists.   The goal of the study is to find ways to make Route 1 safer and more attractive for more people living, working, traveling, and shopping in the area.

As an important next step, the Town of Kittery is hosting a Public Input Session at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 in Council Chambers and Zoom.  The meeting will provide the public with an opportunity to hear from the project team, review draft design alternatives for the roadways, intersections and bike/ped facilities throughout the corridor and to provide comments and feedback.

Residents and community members are encouraged to attend in-person or via Zoom to learn about and comment on diagrams and models which depict lane widths, vehicle travel and turning movements, traffic calming measures, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, and conceptual drawings of potential development scenarios along the corridor.
