Dispose of Old or Unusable Pesticides - Maine Board of Pesticides Control Collection Program - October 2022

Maine Board of Pesticides Control Collection Program 2022

Homeowners sometimes discover old, unusable or “obsolete” pesticides in the shed, garage or cellar of their homes. Many compounds found in older pesticides, like DDT, dioxin-containing 2,4,5-T and compounds of arsenic, mercury or lead are now banned because of their hazards to human health, wildlife or to the environment. Sometimes pesticides become unusable because they freeze or get damp and solidify.

As these materials are not accepted at the Kittery Resource Recovery Facility, residents looking for a responsible and free option to dispose of old or unusable pesticides can utilize the Maine Board of Pesticides (BPC) Control Collection Program.

The next collection will be held during October 2022 with the closest collection location to Kittery taking place in Portland.  Registration for the October 2022 collection must be submitted by September 26, 2022.
