Route 1 Corridor Feasibility Study

Image of Route 1 in Kittery Maine

The Town of Kittery was awarded a grant to undertake a Route 1 Corridor Feasibility Study with the Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT). The purpose of this study is to evaluate how Route 1, north of the traffic circle to the the Town of York line, should be improved for traffic safety, and enhance mobility for pedestrians and bicyclists.

The Town envisions continued growth in this corridor, including new residential and mixed-use development. Looking at ways to make Route 1 safer and more attractive for more people living, working, traveling, and shopping in the area is the goal. The potential and needs for public transportation services will also be considered.

The Town of Kittery will host three (3) public meetings as part of this effort:

  • Public Information Session on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at 6:00 PM in Town Hall Council Chambers
    • See below for information and materials from this meeting.
  • Public Input Session on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at 6:00 PM in Council Chambers and Zoom.
    • See below for information and materials from this meeting.
