Effective February 2024, voters who will be at least 65 years of age by the next election or who self-identify as a voter with a disability (or who meet both conditions) can submit a written application to request ongoing absentee voter status.

Ongoing absentee voter status means that after submitting the ongoing absentee ballot status application located below, the voter does not need to submit an application for each election; instead, the voter will automatically receive an absentee ballot for each ensuing statewide election, municipal election and any other election for which the voter is entitled to vote.

Ongoing absentee voter status may only be terminated by the Clerk or the Secretary of State by:

  • The written request of the voter;
  • The death or disqualification of the voter;
  • The cancellation of the voter's registration record in the central voter registration system;
  • The return of an absentee ballot as undeliverable;
  • The failure of the voter to vote by absentee ballot for a general election; or
  • The designation of the voter's status as inactive in the central voter registration system.

To apply for ongoing absentee voter status, please download and complete the application form found by clicking here.

Please note: voters must provide a telephone number and/or email address on the application so that the voter can be notified if their status is terminated because the voter has moved out of the municipality.

Once completed, the form must be signed by the voter and submitted to the Kittery Town Clerk’s Office.  Completed forms may be submitted:

  • In-person at the Town Clerk’s Office or Customer Service Center during regular business hours:
