Important Party Change Information for the March 5, 2024 Presidential Primary Election

The Presidential Primary Election is taking place on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at the Kittery Community Center from 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM.  To be prepared to vote on Election Day, please see below for important deadlines related to party changes and party ballot options.

Changing Party Enrollment

Voters that would like to withdraw or change their party enrollment are required to do so at least 15 days prior to the election.  The deadline to withdraw or change party enrollment and be eligible to vote in the Presidential Primary Election is February 16, 2024.

Party changes will not be allowed after February 16, 2024 or on Election Day (March 5, 2024).

Unenrolled Voters

Voters that are unenrolled in a political party may change their enrollment to a qualified party, at any time.  The 5 Qualified Parties in Maine are:

  • Democrat
  • Republican
  • Libertarian
  • No Label
  • Green Independent

Please note that a voter must remain in a party for 3 months before withdrawing enrollment or changing parties.

The Town Clerk’s Office is open Monday - Wednesday from 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM, Thursdays from 8:30 AM - 6:00 PM and Fridays from 8:30 AM - 1:30 PM.
