York County Breaks the Silence of Domestic Abuse - Events and Resources

York County Breaks the Silence of Domestic Abuse

In recognition of National Domestic Abuse Awareness Month this October, several Maine public libraries are partnering with Finding Our Voices (a Maine grassroots nonprofit organization) to provide information about domestic abuse to the public.

On October 17, 2023 at 6:30 PM, the York Public Library will host a “Finding Our Voices - Survivors Breaking the Silence of Domestic Abuse” event. The event will include powerful short films aimed at ending the stigma and shame of abuse.  After the short films, the event will feature a panel of domestic abuse survivors who will share their stories and then lead a community conversation centered around emotional abuse and its impact on children.

In addition to the event, libraries across York County will be exhibiting the Finding Our Voices posters, featuring photo portraits of 45 Maine domestic abuse survivors aged 18 - 83. To view the photo exhibit in Kittery, please visit the Rice Public Library, located at 8 Wentworth Street.
