Rock Rest Historical Marker Unveiling Kittery - June 4, 2022
Join the Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire and the Seacoast NAACP Youth Council for the unveiling of two historical markers honoring Rock Rest in Kittery, ME on Saturday, June 4, 2022.  This two-part celebration honors the historic home of Rock Rest, and the legacy of the Sinclair family who opened their home and welcomed African-American travelers at a time when many accommodations were closed to them.

This commemorative event will begin at 1:00 PM at the Second Congregational Church, located at 33 Government Street in Kittery, ME. The celebration will feature local guest speakers, poetry and song, and include a short walk to Wallingford Square for the unveiling of the first marker.  Attendees will then be invited to take a bus to Rock Rest in Kittery Point, ME for the second unveiling, and have the unique opportunity to hear more about Rock Rest from those who remember it well.

This two-part celebration is free and open to the public.  To learn more about the event, and Rock Rest’s history, please visit the Black Heritage Trail of New Hampshire’s website by clicking here.
