Be Prepared for Winter Weather - Tips & Reminders About Snow Plowing & Removal in Kittery

The Town of Kittery would like to provide residents with some helpful information and reminders about managing snow this winter season.

As we move through the winter months, the Department of Public Works will be diligently plowing public roads throughout town to ensure the safe passage of vehicular and pedestrian traffic.  To help facilitate snow plowing operations, we kindly request residents remove any items that are within the town’s right of way, such as basketball hoops, campers, trailers and other similar objects.  Items left within the right of way may be damaged or removed if not taken care of prior to snow events.

The Town of Kittery would also like to ask for the public’s cooperation with regards to snow clearing.  As a reminder, per Kittery Town Code Chapter 12.2.1, the pushing or throwing of snow from sidewalks or private driveways onto Town roads is prohibited.  This includes pushing snow across the street, into the ditch or right of way area along the street and clearing cars off into the street.

For a list of FAQs and answers from the Kittery Public Works Department related to snow plowing and removal, please click here.  The attachment includes a diagram with tips on how/where to shovel snow with town plowing operations in mind.  Following the diagrams will ensure snow accumulations from the plows getting pushed back onto private driveways is minimal.
