The Kittery Housing Committee in collaboration with the Seacoast Workforce Housing Coalition is excited to present an opportunity to develop confidence when discussing the topic of affordable housing at the Housing Advocacy Bootcamp, this fall.

A lack of affordable housing is a common thread in community discussions about employment shortages at local businesses and town jobs, traffic and congestion from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, climate resiliency and greenhouse gas emission reductions in Kittery, and community diversity, equity and inclusion.  In October, the State of Maine released its Housing Production Needs Study which determined that 76,000 housing units are needed to meet current demands, in addition to 84,300 housing units necessary to support future needs for the state.

Affordable housing is a difficult and multi-faceted topic that elicits passionate discussion and debate. The Housing Advocacy Bootcamp event will provide attendees with information, tips and techniques for making sense of the challenging subject.  Hear from local experts in housing advocacy, build confidence when talking with friends and neighbors about housing and learn how to build support for it within the community.

The Housing Advocacy Bootcamp event will take place on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, from 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM at the Kittery Community Center.  Refreshments will be provided.

The event is FREE and no experience is necessary to participate.  We hope you’ll join us to learn what you can do to advocate for housing affordability, availability, and diversity.
