Sidewalk Replacement Project on Pepperrell Road - Update

Road Work Kittery

The Kittery Public Works Department will be working on a sidewalk replacement project that will take place within the public right of way of Pepperrell Road in the area between Coleman Avenue and Haley Road.

The work began the week of May 10th.  Approximately two thirds of the sidewalk work is complete.  The remaining section is waiting for the granite contractor to deliver the curbing.  Once that is delivered, the compaction and concrete install will take place.   If no further weather delays occur, the sidewalks should be complete in the next few weeks.

This project will be followed by the repaving of Pepperrell Road.  Crews are working now on addressing storm water capture and drainage in the area of Fort McClary.  The crew has hit ledge, which is slowing down the progress on the drainage work.  Repaving will take place in the fall, following the sidewalk installation and drainage work, and based on the contractor's schedule.

The pavement project is part of our five year Pavement Management program.  The pavement management plan identifies the pavement projects scheduled for the next five years and is incorporated into the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) published each year.  For more info about the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) and the pavement management plan, click here.

Equipment operation and construction within the confines of the roadways is very difficult and safety is a concern.  The public is asked to stay completely out of the construction site and to drive slowly and carefully through the work area.

If you have any questions please call the Public Works Department office at 207-439-0333.
