Program Reminder:

The Tax Stabilization Program is a new program from the State of Maine.  Applications for the program were due December 1, 2022. The program is effective April 1, 2023, which means if eligible, you will see the freeze on the next tax bill you receive in September, 2023.

Deadline Reminder:

Applications for the Property Tax Stabilization for Senior Citizens program must be received by the Tax Collector's Office by December 1, 2022.  There will be no exceptions to the deadline.

The Maine legislature has passed LD 290, which stabilizes the property tax for eligible property owners in Maine, providing a new resource for property tax relief for senior citizens called the Property Tax Stabilization for Senior Citizens Program.

To be eligible for the Program, an individual must meet all of the following as of April 1 of the property tax year for which they are requesting stabilization (for applications due December 1, 2022, qualifications must be met as of April 1, 2023):

  • Be at least 65 years old
  • Be a permanent resident of Maine
  • Have owned a Maine homestead for at least ten years
  • Be eligible for a homestead exemption on the property they are placing in the Program

The Program application is available online by clicking here or can be obtained at the Kittery Town Hall, located at 200 Rogers Road, Monday through Thursday, from 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM.

Applications must be received by the Town of Kittery Tax Collector’s Office by December 1, 2022 for the upcoming tax year.  By law, applications cannot be accepted after the December 1st deadline.  There are no allowed exceptions.  Applications can be submitted in person at the Kittery Town Hall, Monday through Thursday, from 8 AM - 6 PM or via email to pbrewster@kitteryme.org

Property owners eligible for the Program must complete an application each year to keep the stabilized tax in effect.
