Freebie Barn & Community Swap Update - Wednesday, March 22, 2023

Freebie Barn Update for March 2023

Kittery community members have been quick to take advantage of Freebie Barn donations this month, which is very exciting for the Freebie Barn program, but does change our weekend plans.  Due to low inventory this month, the Freebie Barn Community Swap scheduled for Sunday, March 26, 2023 has been canceled.

The Freebie Barn will be open at the Kittery Resource Recovery Facility today, Wednesday, March 22 from 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM to continue collecting this month’s themed items: tools.  Any items remaining at the end of the day today will be donated to our Community Partner, NH ReStore.

Back to why this update is exciting… Since reopening the Freebie Barn program, we have received 1,561 lbs. in donations at the Kittery Resource Recovery Facility and 500 lbs. at our two Community Swap events.  Together, our community members have donated and diverted over 2,000 lbs. of items from the waste stream since we reopened in January 2023!

The Community Swap is scheduled to be back next month on Sunday, April 30, 2023.  The items being collected for the month of April are: bicycles.

Our Community Partner for April will be Apex Youth Connection.  Apex connects Maine youth with their communities to ensure they have the personal skills and connections to support their transition to healthy, happy, productive adulthood.  To learn more about Apex Youth Connection, please click here.

Apex will be at the Community Swap next month to hold a bike repair workshop and provide one on one bike repair and advice.  More details will be announced in April, but if you’ve got a bike that needs some TLC, get ready to bring it over to the Community Swap!

The Freebie Barn program relies on dedicated volunteers to keep it going.  Volunteering for the Freebie Barn program is a great way to connect with friends and neighbors while helping to create a more sustainable community.
