Public Health and Safety Subcommittee

The Public Health and Safety Subcommittee will identify risks to residents associated with or resulting from extreme climate events and expansion of pest-borne vectors and develop responses to those risks.

The Public Health and Safety Subcommittee seeks to:

  • Develop response plans for high heat and cold events
  • Identify strategies associated with pest borne vectors, including eradication and control
  • Collaborate with surrounding communities, including the Kittery Water District and the State of Maine
  • Establish strategies for alerting the public; specifically those most vulnerable due to chronic illnesses, sensitivity to climate extremes, the elderly and the very young.
  • Work in coordination with Built and Natural Landscape Impacts Subcommittee on any proposed changes to Town ordinances
  • Monitor outdoor recreation facilities for vector borne diseases
  • Coordinate with the Kittery Water District on stability of town water supply
  • Monitor health of Town water bodies
  • Educate the public on response plans
