Government Street Paving Kittery

September 17, 2019:

The contractor will be paving a leveling course, and has allotted the next two days (Wednesday, September 18, 2019 and Thursday, September 19, 2019) for its completion.  There will be no parking on Government Street tomorrow, Wednesday, September 18, 2019, until paving is done for the day.  Possible parking restrictions may be put in place on Thursday, September 19, 2019, which will be dependent on tomorrow's progress.

Street sweeping will take place at 7:00 AM tomorrow, ahead of paving.  Paving operations will begin from the intersection of Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Gate 1, and Government Street, pulling against traffic, along the one-way.

September 4, 2019 Update:

Pavement milling is expected to begin next week, on Wednesday, September 11, 2019.  Please stay alert, drive carefully and be aware of parking restrictions in place within the work area.

Beginning, Monday, September 2, 2019, MaineDOT will begin the Government Street Paving Project, which will include pavement milling, hot mix asphalt overlay and drainage/safety improvements on the Government Street and Prince Avenue intersection to the Walker Street and Wentworth Street intersection.

Pavement milling is expected to begin the week of September 9, 2019, followed by paving the week of September 16, 2019, with work on the sidewalk ramps and crosswalks to follow.  The project is expected to be complete by Wednesday, October 16, 2019.

The paving project will begin with limited parking restrictions during the week of September 2, 2019, with additional parking restrictions in place from September 9, 2019 to September 20, 2019.

Equipment operation and construction within the confines of roadways is very difficult and safety is always a concern.  Please be sure to drive slowly and carefully through the work area to insure the safety of other drivers, as well as project staff.
