Adopt A Road Program - September 2018 Update

Adopt A Road Kittery

Our Adopt-A-Road volunteers continue to keep our program is alive and well in Kittery.  We’d like to share some good news and our appreciation for the efforts of our volunteers over the summer.

We’re happy to report that we have 2 new road adopters on Gerrish Island.  These volunteers were the first to use our revised process and forms.  With thanks to Suzanne Esposito at Town Hall, our applications, waivers, and status reports are available on the Kittery Conservation Commission web page found here.  Adopters can choose to email, mail, or drop off their applications and status reports at Town Hall.  We hope that these changes make it easier to learn more about the program and adopt a road.

We are very grateful to Jerry Robock and Steve Hall for their efforts to repair, replace, and add road signs.  Jerry was especially helpful in locating a supplier whose prices are very reasonable. Over the summer, they ordered and installed new signs for 2 new adopters and one current adopter.  They identified signs in need of some attention and repaired or replaced 7 signs.  We encourage our adopters to let us know if they have a sign that needs some love by calling the Town Hall or emailing us at AdoptKitteryRoads@gmail.com.

We’re experimenting with asking our adopters to fill out a short and simple status report.  It’s a one-page form that briefly describes their cleanup efforts.  We were thrilled to receive three status updates already. Feedback so far is that it was easy to fill out the form, so we hope that it will catch on.  In our data-driven world, so it’s great to be able to detail our successes with information from our adopters.

As a reminder, we ask that volunteers assess and clean-up their road segments 2-3 times a year.  Many do it much more frequently.  Dear volunteers, please consider downloading a status report form from our web page next time you work on your road.  It will take a few minutes to fill it in and send it to AdoptKitteryRoads@gmail.com

Wishing you a happy fall season!
