1) The Town of Kittery is on a Fiscal Year commencing July 1st of each year. The new real estate tax bill comes out in early October and the first payment is due and payable by October 31st, the second payment is due by February 15th and third payment by May 31st. Property Tax bills are sent to the owner of record as of April 1st. If you are a new resident and have acquired the property following April 1st, please make arrangements for the tax bill from the prior owner or call the Assessor's Office (207- 475-1390) to obtain a copy and make them aware of the ownership change. The Town does not receive Transfer Ownership data from the Registry of Deeds in Alfred for severals months following the ownership transaction! First time owners should also be sure that all of the historical taxes have been paid off during the
settlement or else the new owner is liable for them.
5. Kittery has no municipal solid waste pickup, but does have a mandatory recycling program at the Solid Waste Facility on Route 236 in Kittery http://www.kittery.org/Pages/KitteryME_WebDocs/location . Private haulers are available through the phone book or with a sticker, solid waste and other items may be brought to the facility. To access the facility you must have a resident solid waste sticker obtained at Town Hall in the "Payment Center".
