KITTERY POLICE DEPARTMENT PARTICIPATES WITH A CHILD IS MISSING ALERT PROGRAM
With the summer season in full swing, the Kittery Police Department wants to remind residents this is the time of year the Department gets the most calls for missing children. The Department is a participant in the national organization, A Child Is Missing Alert Program. This program partners with law enforcement to provide a customized alert message which is telephoned to residents within the area where the missing person was last seen. Call recipients are asked to call police with any information they have about the missing child.
The program is also designed to be used in the case of an elderly, Alzheimer or otherwise disabled missing person as well.
A Child Is Missing Alert uses a high tech mapping system to select phone numbers from their database and can place up to 1000 calls in 60 seconds. Their database does not include cell phone numbers or unlisted numbers, but individuals may register their cell or unlisted number to receive alerts by going to www.achildismissing.org.
This organization also provides community alerts when a sex offender moves into the area, which our agency will begin to use each time the department registers or reregisters a sex offender/predator.
A Child Is Missing is the only program of its kind in the country and works in tandem with Amber Alert and all child safety programs. The Kittery Police Department is pleased to be partnered with this agency. Residents should feel free to contact the Police Department with any questions regarding this program.
